Mars is living large this weekend, forming a volatile opposition with Pluto. As I wrote in my Scorpio New Moon post:

Mars-Pluto stirs up fears and frustrations, anger and old resentments, feelings that have been repressed or hidden and are now being forced into awareness. “Cathartic release” is the theme – purging what needs to be shed in order to break through to another level of owning your power and living your destiny.

This is just the first of three Mars-Pluto oppositions, due to Mars’ upcoming retrograde - a headlining influence as we close out 2024 and enter 2025. The planet of action, power, desire and direction only goes retrograde every two years; it’s the rarest of planetary retrogrades.

Mars will appear to travel backwards from December 6th to February 23rd, but you’ll feel the effects for much longer – October 6th to May 3rd (the retrograde shadow).

When the red planet reverses, forward momentum slows, while motivation and vitality wane. You may feel confused about your goals and purpose, unsure about what you want and how to move forward. Mars retro is a time to slow down and turn inward to rethink where you’re headed, reconnect with your deeper sense of purpose, and regenerate your life force.

Mars begins its retrograde in Leo, asking: Do you have the courage to follow your heart’s passion? Do you know your power as a creator god/dess? Are you shining the light of your true self? Mars then reverses back into Cancer, inviting you to revisit your early childhood, family and ancestral past, and deep emotional life in order to heal the wounds that limit your confidence and self-expression.
